Calvin’s strongest “friendly” connections are through his bandmates who are presumably guys that he grew up with and are well aware of his incendiary ignorance. At Melissa's, his work ethic seems to have earned him a great deal of trust from Chuck which is likely why he keeps him around despite himself. He is also not popular with either Rachel- and this is putting it lightly for one of them.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
While I could understand tolerating someone abrasive for the sake of keeping their act together, the overall quality of their output suggests that they like having Cal around for other reasons. I’d do more observation if I could stand being around him.
